I have the honour to aɖignowledge the

receipt of Your Excellency's despatch of the 27th of

December enclosing copy of a communication which you

had addressed to lie Majesty's Consul-General at

to be Canton on the subject of a claim made by the Hong-

kong Government against the Chinese Authorities for

the suspension of traffic on the Canton-Kolucon

railway during from the 7th. of liovember to the 13th

of Becamber.

I have deferred answering Your Ixoollen-

cy's despatch until I had an opportunity of consul-

ting Mr. Alaton, Councillor of this Legation, whose

opinion on the question had been asked by His Lajos-

ty'a Consul-General at Canton.

After dus consideration, I have come to

the conclusion that the claim should be presented to

His Excellency
